The Importance of Storytelling & Narratives with Traniesa “TC” C

  • Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment 2211 Seminole Drive Southwest Huntsville, AL, 35805 United States (map)

This workshop will focus on the importance of storytelling, collecting stories, ways to collect stories, and how to give space and room for your subject(s) to tell their own stories. Participants will hear how others have collected stories, see facilitator’s process, and write out their own plan for a project.

From the instructor:

My goal is to tell real stories from people in my communities. I want to provide a platform for marginalized voices. These people are real, and they deserve to be visible. Everything we see on TV isn’t real, but the grandmother who has worked until her body couldn’t handle it anymore is very real. By sharing real narratives, we can create dialogue. Dialogue creates actions. Actions create change.

About the instructor:

Traniesa “TC” Caldwell is a community activist and poet. TC’s pronouns are they/them/theirs. TC grew up in the rural south (Opp, AL). TC believes in people and creating a platform for people to tell their own stories. They have been a performance artist for over 14 years. Their narrative project has displayed in Selma, Montgomery, Birmingham, and Huntsville.
